Hacienda Betulia is a Swiss-Colombian family business located in a traditional cacao cultivating region of Colombia. The beautiful landscape with its ideal soil and environmental conditions is situated to the east of Medellin's provincial capital. Betulia has successfully incorporated all the required elements of a sustainable cocoa plantation. All relevant factors were carefully addressed, from scientific soil analysis and genetic tests to sustainable farm practices and a sophisticated fermentation concept. After years of development, innovation, and enthusiastic work, the vision of a Colombian cacao criollo with rare and complex flavors finally came into being.
Hacienda Betulia grows three exclusive local Colombian single criollo varietals originating from the municipality of Maceo, Antioquia. Local, productive, fine flavor criollo trees were selected after a lengthy observation. These special criollos were named Betulia. The chosen trees, distinguished by their given references B6, B8, and B9, were grafted and increased over time.
A scarce offering and a tiny batch of 450 precious bars: has a dynamic and robust flavor profile of ripe pineapple and exotic star fruit with a refreshing, long-lasting chocolate finish.

Pod: Criollo Betulia, grown from local cacao trees in Maceo, Colombia. Betulia is propagated by consistent grafting; no imported trees are used or crossbreeding with other varieties. Criollo Betulia is a genuine local variety of the Colombian cacao family.
Bean: Hacienda Betulia uses an accurate controlled fermentation process to develop the sweet spot between the complex cacao flavors and cacao health benefits. Every step of the anaerobic and aerobic phases is carefully managed. The bean temperatures and pH values are regularly measured to identify the right moment for turns during fermentation.

The chocolate master delicately roasts fresh cacao beans every morning. Slowly rolled and conched to release their extraordinary bouquet of fruits, nuts, and flowers. These handcrafted bars are later stored to mature and develop a vast range of flavors and textures.
